DIRECTORATE GENERAL LABOUR SINDH

 

The Directorate General of Labour, Sindh was established on 01.07.1970. Initially, the Directorate comprised of the Weights & Measures, the Manpower and Training, the Inspectorate of Mines, the Mines Welfare Organization, the Dock Labour Safety and the Workers Welfare Board. Further on, in the year 1978, the Weights and Measures Wing was taken away from the Directorate of Labour and it was merged with the Bureau of Supply & Prices. In the year 1980, the Directorate of Labour was further bifurcated and it was left with Labour and Dock Labour Safety only.

Functions of Directorate General Labour Sindh

  • Maintenance of Industrial Peace.
  • Registration of Factories
  • Registration of Trade Unions, determination of Collective Bargaining Agents and conciliation in case of industrial disputes.
  • Implementation of Labour Laws in industrial and commercial establishments in Sindh
  • Adjudication of individual claims under the Sindh Workers Compensation Act and Sindh Payment of Wages Act.
  • Collection of statistical data to prepare labour force situation report periodically.
  • Training and advisory services for employers, employees, trade unionists, in occupational and safety & health through occupational and safety health centres.
